The bulk of the NFL will start their veteran training camps this week. The Raiders included. This also means those teams will look to get their rosters in order. Among the players signed to teams today was DE Clelin Ferrell who was added by the Dolphins just ahead of their training camp opening.
Ferrell entered the league in 2019 as the fourth overall pick by the Oakland Raiders. At the time the pick drew a lot of skepticism across the league. Even Raiders GM Mike Mayock admitted the team had hoped to trade down before selecting the former Clemson rusher, but when they were unable to make that trade happen, they reached for Ferrell anyway.
A lackluster rookie season turned out to be his best season in the NFL in which he put up 4.5 sacks. eight
tackles for loss and 38 combined tackles -- numbers he hasn't reached since.
The already dim light flamed out in Las Vegas and with no trade value, after four years he left as a free agent and signed with the 49ers. And now he is on his fifth team in the past four years. At least he continues to make a career out of it. Even if most of his chances are still due to his initial potential as a former fourth overall pick.
