With the Raiders set to face the Bills Week 6, I spoke with Nick Wojton from Bills Wire to get the inside scoop on the team coming to Las Vegas. I peppered him with five questions to better understand what the Raiders are up against on Sunday.
1. What's going on with the defense in Buffalo? Cuz it looks pretty bad. Do they really miss Taron Johnson that much?
Nick Woljton: Truthfully, if Taron Johnson was a schematic fit, it would be nice to still have him here. Dee Alford is not better. But that's where the problem lies, the Bills' secondary is terrible. The pass rush can be there, but the secondary can't stop anybody. Put all your money on Brock Bowers going over 100 again.
2. The inverse is the offense, which looks as dominant as ever. Can they continue to survive having to score over 30 points a game like this?
NW: They don't really have a choice, but I'd say they can continue to survive like this… until the postseason comes around. Opponents will consistently be better and that's the same story
for the Bills each year for awhile now. Even their defensive coordinator, Jim Leonhard, said this week SOMETHING has got to get better with his defense… Not a great sign.
3. How much of a problem does James Cook's fumbling present? Is that the biggest potential weakness for the offense or is there something else?
NW: That's partly the biggest problem, but just turnovers in general. Not only is Cook prone to them, as good as Josh Allen is, he has times of playing 'hero ball.' That's why the Patriots beat them and he's had other close calls late in wins.
4. Give me an under-the-radar player on each side of the ball for the Bills
NW: On defense, Deone Walker. The defensive tackle is a beast and has allowed Greg Rousseau to sack the quarterback at a ferocious pace to start the season. Offensively, running back Ty Johnson in the passing game. He only gets a few touches a game, but he makes them count.
5. Who wins this game? Why? Score prediction.
NW: I'll go with the Bills, 31-27. More than anything, a Cook bounce-back ish game of sorts seems to be where this could go. "Ish" because he actually did play very well last week, he just could not hang onto the ball… and 27 for the Raiders because everyone puts points up on this defense until proven otherwise.
