A comeback win over the New York Jets ended a four-game slide Sunday, but the oddsmakers aren't buying a turnaround yet. Las Vegas opens as a sizable road underdog against the San Francisco 49ers, who come out of their bye at 6-1.
The 49ers are 4-0 at home, and their only loss came at Atlanta, where four turnovers sank them in a 29-20 defeat. Several injured players, including defensive end Nick Bosa, also have a chance to return after the week off.
Raiders vs. 49ers opening odds for Week 9
In its Tuesday preview, BetMGM lists the 49ers as 8.5-point favorites at -125, with the Raiders at -105 on the other side. San Francisco sits at -500 straight up with the Raiders paying +380, while the total checks in at 50.5 points.
Backing the Raiders has been a profitable habit this season, since
they are 6-2 against the spread. BetMGM's model gives the 49ers an 82% chance to win, yet it still leans toward the Raiders covering at 52%.
The over has also cashed in six of their eight games, with the defense giving up 30-plus points in five straight weeks. Strangely enough, BetMGM priced the under at -135 and the over at +105.
Every Raiders win has come against a losing team
Truth be told, the spread says more about the Raiders' schedule than their record. All four wins have come against the Dolphins, Chargers, Saints and Jets, teams that are a combined 5-24 this season.
Their three-point losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills both came at home. The lone road trip against a winning team ended in a 45-17 beating at New England.
San Francisco has also won after each of its last four byes, so the Raiders will need their sharpest road showing yet to keep this one close.
