The Raiders prepare for the Rams this week and thus start another week in which Dont'e Thornton may or may not prove he is ready to come off injured reserve.
Thornton returned to practice back on Oct 7, opening his 21-day window for being activated. That means this is the final week the Raiders could keep him off the roster before they have to either activate him or keep him out for the season. And head coach Klint Kubiak still has to see more before he makes his decision.
"He's going out there to practice to show us that he's ready, and he's been building up." said Kubiak. "He had a good first week, had a good second week. He's got his legs underneath him and he's got to go show us something."
Up to this point, Kubiak has said it has mostly to do
with Thornton being in football shape. That's it's a conditioning thing due to him missing all of camp as well. But you'd have to think if he were more vital to this receiver corps, he'd bring add him regardless. Which is saying a lot considering how weak this unit is overall.
The physical abilities have always been there for Thornton. If his instincts and hands could catch up to his 6-5 stature and 4-3 speed, the Raiders would really have something. And the mere fact that they are slow playing his return should tell you they don't feel like he would be an upgrade to what they currently have on the roster.
