Las Vegas Raiders punter AJ Cole had quite the performance in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers. As a result, Pro Football Focus has named Cole to its Week 2 Team of the Week following his strong showing in Las Vegas’ 26-14 victory over the Chargers.
Cole helped the Raiders gain advantages in field position, consistently pinning the Chargers deep in their own territory. He finished with six punts for 277 yards, averaging 46.2 yards per punt.
Four of Cole’s punts landed inside the Chargers’ 20-yard line. His longest punt was for 56 yards, and he limited opportunities for the Chargers to create momentum on returns through fair catches made on the game.
The Raiders’ victory improved the team to 2-0 on the season and marked an important early
win for the team in the AFC West title race. Cole’s ability to combine distance with placement proved to be especially valuable in a road divisional matchup.
Cole continues to be one of the Las Vegas’ most dependable special-teams players. His Week 2 performance did much for the Raiders in helping the team get off to an unexpected start to the year, with real playoff chances now existing in Las Vegas.
