There was quite an interesting situation with Ashton Jeanty in the Raiders' Week 8 matchup with the Jets. Despite being named a captain for the game, the Raider took the ball out of his hands for the entire first quarter, giving all the carries to rookie Mike Washington.
It's interesting not just because Jeanty was named a captain, but because it comes on the heels of Jeanty's comment from the Raiders locker room mocking the Jets' defenders, saying that some of them don't like to tackle.
The statement sparked a strong reaction from the Jets players and became a national story. This included Jets LB Demario Davis who called it "bulletin board material."
Honestly, it could be punishment for Jeanty's comments or his ineffectiveness running the ball
that caused the Raiders to make the switch. Jeanty has averaged just 3.1 yards per carry this season while Washington has put up 4.9 yards per carry.
Washington had six carries for 21 yards (3.5 ypc) on two possessions for the Raiders to open this game. Jeanty came out and lined up out wide, but has yet to touch the ball.
