The NFL world is a flutter today as football is officially back tonight. The league just keeps creeping further and further into the offseason. It's Wednesday and somehow there's a game that will be played today. It's the Super Bowl re-match between the reigning champion Seattle Seahawks against the AFC champion New England Patriots.
The game will kick off at 5:20 pm PT in Seattle. It will air on NBC.
We're so early, that most of the league will start Week 1 practices today. This includes the Raiders who take the field today to begin their preparations for their season opener against the Dolphins.
That means we will get our first official injury report since last season.
One detail everyone is looking for is the status of RB Ashton Jeanty. Will
he take the field? If he doesn't, that would put his chances of being available for the opener is serious doubt. A return to practice would be a big deal as it would come just over two weeks from when he went down in practice with what was feared to be a much worse injury. But in the end was ruled an ankle sprain.
That first practice and susequent injury report will be the first thing to signal the start of the NFL season. Then tonight's game between the Seahawks and Patriots -- which will hopefully yield the same result as the Super Bowl.
Then there will be the Thursday night matchup between the Rams and 49ers from Melbourne Australia. After that it's on to Sunday.
