It's been pretty widely known that the Raiders don't have a strong wide receiver corps. Their number one receiver was expected to be tight end Brock Bowers. But Bowers suffered a knee injury that caused him to have a meniscus trim just before the start of the season that has cost him the first two games of the season. So, now, more than ever, they have needed someone to step up.
They got that step up from an unexpected place in Week two against the Chargers. It was practice squad call up Cody White who came up big with two touchdown catches in their 26-14 win.
His first touchdown was a thing of absolute beauty, providing just the kind of receiver skills this team has lacked, by winning a 50/50 ball in the end zone for the go-ahead score.

“It wasn't easy," White said of the catch. "It [was] a little bit underthrown, but I mean, in that situation, it was the perfect ball for me to go up and make a play. So Kirk [Cousins] put in the perfect spot, and for me to go up there and go make a play, just trying to help the team in any way I can to go out there and get a win.”
Late in the game, off a turnover, it was White again with the touchdown to put the game away.

“We were in four minutes, so they were they were trying to play the run, and we were able to run a little play pass and score a touchdown, and it was cool, because that was the end zone my family was in. So I looked up with them, it was a dope moment," White said of the second TD.
How out of nowhere was this performance? Well, prior to this White had one touchdown in his career. Which means he doubled his previous career total in one half of football.
As for his time with the Raiders, this is his second week and he's already made big plays in both games. Last week it was on special teams where he chased down a 79-yard kick return to make the tackle. The Cardinals ended up going nowhere on offense and missed the field goal, making the stop that much more pivotal. And it earned him a game ball from his coach after the game.
“Just doing anything I can," White said of his contributions. "Whether that's special teams blocking, run game, pass game, anywhere I can be a versatile player for our team, and go out there and just get wins. That's really all that matters, to me, into this team, is just going out there and trying to get a win.”
The Raiders look to have found the fifth wide receiver they've been looking for.
