The Las Vegas Raiders won a huge divisional road game in Week 2, beating the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14. The surprising Raiders improved to 2-0 and are already one victory away from tying last season's win total. The defense got an impactful performance from rookie cornerback Hezekiah Masses.
Playing a significantly larger role than he did in Week 1, Masses recorded two interceptions of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. His first takeaway was a heads-up play after veteran tight end David Njoku bobbled the football. Masses' second pick was even more impressive, beating the intended receiver to a 50-50 ball.
Masses led all Raiders defensive backs with five tackles (four solo). The former Cal standout added a TFL and two pass breakups to his defensive totals.
Masses made Raiders history throughout his performance. He became the seventh rookie in franchise history to record two INTs in a game (the first since 1979, Henry Williams). Masses became the first rookie in franchise history to have multiple interceptions and a tackle for loss in a game since 1999. He's into the Raiders record books.
Masses played 26 coverage snaps. He was credited with allowing just two receptions for 16 yards on six targets. He held top Chargers receivers Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey to a combined zero catches on one target.
Masses was a legitimate difference maker for the Raiders on Sunday.
