When the report came out that Brock Bowers had a meniscus trim procedure before the start of the season, the prognosis was 1-2 weeks. And it always seems realistically two weeks at least. From the sounds of it, that's what the Raiders are expecting as well.
The Raiders have gone out and won their two matchups to start the season despite being without their All Pro tight end and number one receiver. And Kubiak said Monday that the third-year tight end will return to practice this week.
"Close. He's very close," Kubiak said of Bowers. He looked great."
Kubiak said he hopes Bowers is "itching" to get back on the field. "That's what all of our guys, we expect them to be competitors and get back on the field and that's why Brock's worked his tail off
to put himself in a position to go practice this week."
Whether Bowers is "itching" to return should not be in any way a deciding factor in whether he does or not. At this point you have to trust the doctors to not put Bowers in a position where he could potentially aggravate the injury as he seemed to do last season.
While his return to practice would not assure he sees the field in Week three when the Raiders head to New Orleans to face the Saints, it certainly is a good sign that he could be back, having had nearly three weeks to recover from the procedure.
