Most accounts of what Fernando Mendoza did in the preseason seem to be that he is not ready. That he showed some flashes, but that Kirk Cousins is the right choice as the starter right now. Ryan Fitzpatrick is not in that camp.
The former longtime NFL quarterback is not just "all in" on Fernando Mendoza, he is. "ALL IN!". And he bases it off Mendoza's preseason. The same performances that have had others saying Mendoza still has some work to do before he should start. Fitzpatrick was hyped about it.
“I'm all in on Fernando Mendoza. His preseason was unbelievable," said Fitzpatrick. "All 3 games he made a throw that made me rewind it and say, let me watch this again."
Now, it's understandable to like what he saw in moments with Mendoza over the
three preseason games. And to see the signs and qualities that will make for a future NFL star quarterback. Fitzpatrick goes on at length to list off those areas such as intelligence, work ethic, toughness, fearlessness, aggressiveness, accuracy, and sound mechanics.
But Fitzpatrick adds that not only does he think Mendoza will be great, but that he thinks his career as the franchise QB should start right away.
“I think he should be in there right away because I think he's ready," Fitzpatrick continued. "Are they going to all of a sudden be good? I don't normally say that either. I think a lot of the time waiting and watching is better. I think he's ready to get in there and to do it.”
This comes on the day the Raiders officiall named Kirk Cousins as the team's starting quarterback when they open the season on September 13 against the Miami Dolphins.
