The Las Vegas Raiders committed five penalties during their Week 8 victory against the New York Jets. Those infractions, with three committed by the defense and two by the offense, translated to 37 penalty yards.
Referee John Hussey and his crew called those penalties on the Raiders last week. This time, another crew will monitor the Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 9 game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Who will officiate the Week 9 Raiders-49ers game?
Scott Novak will lead the officiating crew for the Week 9 Raiders-49ers clash. He has 13 years of officiating experience, including eight as a referee. When not working as an NFL referee, this University of Phoenix alum works as a sales manager.
Working with him are umpire Mike Morton and down judge Brian Sakowski.
Morton is a former NFL linebacker who played for the then-Oakland Raiders from 1995 to 1998. He also had stops with the St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers, and Indianapolis Colts throughout his playing career.
Meanwhile, Sakowski has four years of officiating experience and also works as a quality engineer in the offseason.
Also under Novak’s crew are line judge Mark Stewart, side judge Don Willard, and back judge Tony Josselyn. They each have nine years of experience, and they all worked with Novak last season. Finally, field judge John Jenkins completes Novak’s crew. He worked with referee Alan Eck last season, and he has 13 years of experience.
Joining this officiating crew to give another perspective on reviewed calls are replay official Matt Sumstine and replay assistant Jamie Williams. Sumstine has been working on this role for nine years. Conversely, Williams is on his first NFL season after transferring from the Southeastern Conference.
