Klint Kubiak surprised everyone this week with his personnel choice. After hinting at the idea of giving Mike Washington more snaps, he finally pulled the trigger. And in a big way.
Not only did Washington see more snaps, but Ashton Jeanty saw a career-low. The 2025 sixth overall pick saw the field on just 40% of the Raiders' offensive snaps (25) which is the lowest snap percentage he's had in his career. His previous career-low was 53% when ankle and foot injuries had him leave the game for a time.
Likewise, the rookie Washington saw a career-high 60% of the snaps (38).
The carry load was even more lopsided, with Washington carrying the ball 25 times to Jeanty's two carries. That was also a career-low for Jeanty.
Some believe it was because of
Jeanty's comments this past week mocking Jets defenders, saying some of them don't want to tackle. A comment that made its way through the Jets' locker room and acted as bulletin board material for them.
The thing is, though, it could just as easily have been because of how Jeanty was performing. The reason his carries were even more lopsided than his snaps is because when he was in the game, he most often lined up out wide.
This season, Jeanty has set new career-highs in receiving. First against Kansas City in Week 4 when he had a careerr-high 68 yards receiving on six catches. Then last week against the Rams when he tied a career-high with eight catches. And in this game when his 64 yards receiving was the second-highest of his career.
He's simple been more effective as a receiver, while Washington has been running better.
Also seeing a career-high snaps was rookie CB Jermod McCoy who came in after Darien Porter left with injury. McCoy's 34 snaps (53%) beat out fellow rookie Hezekiah Masses and his 29 snaps (45%). Up to this point the battle at left cornerback had been between Porter and Masses.
