The Las Vegas Raiders signed veteran defensive end Kwity Paye to a three-year contract worth $48 million in free agency. The hope was for Paye to help upgrade the Raiders' pass rush. That's exactly what he did in Sunday's 27-13 Week 1 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Paye was unblockable against a Dolphins offensive line that was totally outmatched. The former Michigan standout registered a career-high four quarterback hits, and tied previous highs in sacks (2.0) and tackles for loss (two). Paye made an instant impact on the Raiders' defensive line.
Paye's six total tackles tied for a team-high amount. It was his fifth career multi-sack game. Paye also became the fifth Raiders player in franchise history to register multiple sacks in his team debut.
Prior to Monday Night Football, his four QB hits were tied for third-most in the league in Week 1.
Remember, the Raiders initially agreed to terms with Paye when they believed they'd be trading Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens. Despite the Crosby deal falling through, the Raiders did the right thing by proceeding with the Paye contract. That decision paid immediate dividends in Week 1.
Hopefully Paye keeps producing similar results for the Raiders' new-look defensive line.
