The Las Vegas Raiders had a battle going on a right guard throughout training camp and preseason Jackson Powers-Johnson and Caleb Rogers. And Powers-Johnson has won that battle to begin the season as the starter.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Raiders OC Andrew Janocko highlighted what exactly he’s seen out of Powers-Johnson in practices that earned him the job.
“We are constantly competing but just saw from him a level of consistency that we wanted to see," Janocko said of JPJ. "He came out each and every day, proved what we needed to see, knew the assignments, knew the complexity of the job, and then just executing at the level we've been asking.”
Powers-Johnson emerged from a close contest for the job by demonstrating his ability to handle
the demands of the role. He entered the offseason looking to establish himself after an experiencing his share of highs and lows in 2025, stretching into the preseason. Throughout camp, he worked extensively with the first-team offense while coaches evaluated several lineup combinations and tested him and Rogers in different situations.
The decision now provides the Raiders with clarity at right guard and gives Powers-Johnson an opportunity to help protect Kirk Cousins on the season and further his status on the team in 2026.
