The Las Vegas Raiders released Wednesday's injury report ahead of Sunday's Week 3 game with the New Orleans Saints. Cornerback Darien Porter returned to practice after missing the Week 2 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers with a foot injury. The Raiders now have a first-world problem developing at cornerback.
Porter was replaced in the Chargers game by rookie cornerback Hezekiah Masses. The fifth-round pick out of Cal enjoyed a historic debut. Masses intercepted two passes in his first career start en route to AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Head coach Klint Kubiak will obviously be tempted to hand Masses another start versus the Saints in Week 3. He'd have certainly earned it. But with Porter seemingly coming back, Kubiak must decide
how to split opportunities between the two opposite the always reliable Eric Stokes. Fellow rookie cornerback Jermod McCoy is also in the mix.
Porter was quite impressive against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. Pro Football Focus only credited him with allowing one reception on five targets for 12 yards. The Raiders will want to get Porter back on the field, too.
Having Porter and Masses compete for reps creates a terrific problem for the Raiders at cornerback. That absolutely wasn't the case last season. The Raiders have done an excellent job filling the cornerback room with young talent.
