I don't know about everyone else, but the thing I'm most excited about with the Madden movie coming out this month is Christian Bale's portrayal of Al Davis.
Not surprisingly, Bale loved playing the late iconic Raiders owner. And the Academy Award-winning actor appeared on ESPN this week to talk about his experience and the respect he gained from studying Al Davis to play the role.
And just a trigger warning for those who may not be used to hearing Christian Bale speak in his actual accent.
Based on the trailers that have come out, Bale seems to capture Al's essence pretty well. And based on how he described Davis, he really seems to get what the late Raiders owner was all about. And I guffawed at his comment about how "The whole Davis family hair,
all of them got amazing hair."
As an actor in particular, it was Bale's job to find the contradictions that existed in Davis. Everyone has them and it's what gives a character depth and makes them interesting. And few personalities who ever lived were more interesting than Al Davis.
It's his many fascinating qualities that made Bale so excited to play him.
“People loathe Al Davis, or they love Al Davis. I played Al Davis. I love Al Davis," said Bale.
Bale said of the many characters he has played, that Al Davis is one of his favorites, saying that it was a "Very sad day when I stopped playing Al," and adding "I wish I could make another movie just about Al Davis.”
The Madden movie streams nationwide on Prime video starting November 18.
