Not much changed from Wednesday on the Las Vegas Raiders' injury report from Thursday's practice. Starting guard Jackson Powers-Johnson was absent for the second consecutive session. There's an excellent chance Caleb Rogers will start in his place versus the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.
Powers-Johnson suffered a groin injury late in Sunday's victory over the New Orleans and was replaced by Rogers. The working expectation is that Rogers will start on Sunday. It represents a big-time opportunity for the sophomore blocker.
Powers-Johnson hasn't performed in desired fashion throughout the first three contests. The former Oregon standout has allowed seven quarterback pressures in pass protection, according to Pro Football Focus. The 44th overall pick
in 2024 has also been the Raiders' lowest-graded run blocker among the starting five.
Rogers only ended up playing five snaps versus the Saints following Powers-Johnson's injury. The former Texas Tech standout has looked like a future starter since joining the Raiders. Given how poorly Powers-Johnson is playing, there's a universe out there where Rogers keeps the starting job if he thrives versus the Chiefs.
Powers-Johnson will be on an expiring contract next season. The Raiders should start considering their succession plan. Rogers is a better fit in Klint Kubiak's scheme due to his lateral movement abilities. With Powers-Johnson trending towards sitting, Rogers will have a resume-game opportunity versus the Chiefs on Sunday.
