Texas A&M looks like one of the worst teams in the SEC after Saturday night's 35-6 road loss to No. 10 LSU, as starting quarterback Marcel Reed completed 10/26 for 106 yards with zero touchdowns and his fourth interception of the season, further proving that he has regressed compared to his career year last season.
Through four games, Reed has thrown for 738 yards, six touchdowns, and, as I stated above, four interceptions, completing 55.4% of his passes with a 112.3 quarterback ranking. As you can see, Marcel Reed has been one of the worst-performing quarterbacks in the SEC through two conference games.
After the loss, Marcel Reed has not shied away from talking to the media, which he deserves credit for, answering tough questions about his poor
play, while third-year coach Mike Elko said he will not make a change at quarterback, which says more about backup Brady Hart's readiness.
Reed will remain the starter until further notice, and while his locker room leadership can't be denied, first-year OC Holmon Wiggins and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch must help the redshirt junior fix the footwork issues and poor decision-making in the pocket for A&M's offense to have any shot at improving.
Again, it ends with Marcel Reed and the rest of the team needing to step up, as the second-year starter sent a clear message to his team heading into next weekend's home battle vs. Arkansas.
"Right now it's bad and we're at rock bottom, but you have to dig yourself out of this hole. We have to keep showing up."
That, again, starts at the top: Marcel Reed needs to lead by example, while Holmon Wiggins must tailor game plans to his skill set, using his legs and running the ball at a much higher rate. This is not an untalented roster, especially on offense, so it's time to step up and prove us all wrong.
