Texas A&M sits at 3-3 and 1-3 in SEC play, and after falling to Missouri 27-6 in Week 6, the Aggies return to Kyle Field for the month's final home game, set to host The Citadel on Saturday afternoon. As a more than 40-point favorite in Week 8, third-year coach Mike Elko hopes his team responds to adversity, especially from starting quarterback Marcel Reed.
This week, Elko, along with sophomore defensive tackle Brandon Davis-Swain and sophomore running back Jamarion Morrow, spoke to the media about the program's state amid ongoing struggles in SEC play. Although Elko reportedly plans to stick with Marcel Reed, backup QB Brady Hart still needs to prove his worth.
After rushing for just 29 yards against Missouri, expectations are that the running
game will improve against an undersized Citadel defense that lacks the speed and athleticism to consistently shut down the run, as freshman KJ Edwards and Morrow are expected to take most of the snaps on Saturday.
Marcel Reed is expected to start, but if the Aggies build a big first-half lead, Brady Hart and even freshman quarterback Helaman Casuga could see the field for an extended period. Even if Marcel Red performs above average in the pocket, that won't mean he'll rise to the occasion for the rest of SEC play, based on what we've seen this season.
For Aggies fans who want a sneak peek at what the team will be wearing on Saturday, it's back to the classic maroon helmet, maroon jersey, and white pants look. Here is a video of KJ Edwards modeling the look before Saturday's noon kickoff.
