Texas A&M dropped down at least a dozen spots in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 after falling to Kentucky 31-21 on Saturday afternoon, as third-year coach Mike Elko suffered his third regular-season home loss, and by far his worst defeat since taking over before the 2024 season.
While it's hard for some fans to turn the page, it's our job to shift the focus to this weekend's all-important road test vs. LSU, where the Tigers look to rebound in a big way at home after falling to Ole Miss 32-24 on the road, and will serve as the Aggies' most formidable opponent yet, even though Kentucky dominated Elko's team during the second half of Saturday's telling loss.
It's hard to know how the Aggies will respond after being embarrassed at home
in front of over 102,000 fans, knowing that Mike Elko and his staff will be counted on to get the ship right and get both sides of the ball mentally ready to play four quarters of physical football without any mental lapses.
Texas A&M's injury issues include junior wide receiver Terry Bussey, who suffered a lower-body injury during Saturday's opening kickoff and is not expected to return for quite some time. Freshman running back KJ Edwards also left the game with an undisclosed injury.
For LSU, the Aggies are expected to avoid facing star tight end Trey'Dez Green, who was carted off during Saturday's loss to Ole Miss, but is thankfully expected to return sooner rather than later after avoiding a possibly serious injury. LSU cornerback Dashawn Spears is also reportedly out for the season.
Green leads LSU in receiving yards (222) and has one touchdown, averaging nearly 16 yards per reception. Texas A&M will face LSU on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m., and the game will air on ABC.
