Texas A&M athletics experienced an uneven week as several programs faced ranked opponents and challenging conference matchups.
The football team suffered its first loss of the season after Kentucky controlled the second half at Kyle Field, leaving the Aggies searching for answers before their first road test against LSU. Soccer also endured a difficult result against a top-five Vanderbilt team, dropping its second consecutive SEC match.
Volleyball provided the week’s biggest bright spot by earning two victories, including a ranked road win over Creighton. Men’s golf finished runner-up at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup before closing the week with a tougher showing at the Fighting Illini Invitational.

Texas A&M football suffers first loss against Kentucky
No. 9 Texas A&M entered its SEC opener undefeated but fell 31-21 against Kentucky at Kyle Field.
The teams entered halftime tied at seven before the Wildcats took control by scoring 21 unanswered points in the third quarter. Texas A&M attempted to rally with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Mario Craver delivered the day's best performance for the Aggies, catching a career-high 11 passes for 119 yards. Carsyn Baker scored his first collegiate touchdown, while Micah Riley recorded his first touchdown reception with Texas A&M.
The loss dropped the Aggies to 2-1 ahead of their first road game of the season. Texas A&M will travel to face LSU on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Volleyball completes undefeated week
No. 15 Texas A&M volleyball earned two victories during the week and improved to 6-5.
The Aggies opened with a sweep of SFA at Reed Arena, winning 25-13, 25-9 and 25-22. A&M hit .307 and held the Ladyjacks to 44 total points. Natalie Ring led the offense with 11 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while Gabi Rodriguez recorded 17 digs.
Texas A&M then secured its second-ranked victory of the season by defeating No. 20 Creighton in four sets on the road. It was the Aggies’ first victory at Creighton in program history.
Kyndal Stowers finished with 21 kills, three aces and 15 digs. Kaia Castle added 10 kills while hitting .467, and Kirra Musgrove distributed 44 assists.
The Aggies beat Rice on Monday and will open SEC play against South Carolina.
Soccer shut out by No. 4 Vanderbilt
Texas A&M soccer’s difficult start to conference play continued with a 5-0 loss at No. 4 Vanderbilt.
The Commodores led 2-0 at halftime before adding three goals in the second half. Vanderbilt finished with a 19-8 advantage in shots and attempted 10 corner kicks compared with one for the Aggies.
Texas A&M played the final 21 minutes with 10 players after Riley Crooks received a red card. Vanderbilt scored twice after the Aggies went down a player.
Adelaide Paredes, Ciara Jade Mitchell and Lucy Landherr each made their first career starts. The Aggies fell to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in SEC play ahead of Thursday’s home match against No. 10 Alabama.
Men’s golf experiences mixed results
Texas A&M men’s golf earned a runner-up finish at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup before placing 13th at the Fighting Illini Invitational.
Shiv Parmar finished third individually at the Stephens Cup, while freshman Landon Ashcraft secured A&M’s only point in its 4-1 championship-match loss to Texas. Aaron Pounds and Wheaton Ennis later tied for 23rd at the Fighting Illini Invitational.
Swimming and diving teams open inside preseason rankings
Both Texas A&M swimming and diving teams will begin the season nationally ranked. The men entered the CSCAA Top 25 at No. 24, while the women debuted at No. 25. The Aggies open the season Friday with an intrasquad meet against TCU.
Volleyball delivered the week’s strongest results, while football and soccer will look to bounce back against ranked opponents.
