Former Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper continued his strong start to the 2026 NFL season during the Green Bay Packers’ 20-17 overtime victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.
Cooper finished with eight tackles, including six solo stops, three tackles for loss, a sack and one quarterback hit. His 10-yard sack of Geno Smith was one of four recorded by Green Bay’s defense, which limited New York to 67 rushing yards and 2.5 yards per carry.
The Packers needed every defensive stop after falling behind 17-7 early in the fourth quarter. Green Bay scored 10 unanswered points to force overtime before its defense took the field first in the extra period.
The Jets began overtime at their 30-yard line but moved backward on the possession. A holding penalty
wiped out a positive play before Cooper helped stop running back Breece Hall for a short gain. Green Bay then produced consecutive sacks to force a punt, giving its offense an opportunity to win the game.
Rookie kicker Trey Smack ended it with a 26-yard field goal five plays later.
Sunday marked Cooper’ssecond consecutive productive performance. The former Aggie recorded seven tackles and a sack in Green Bay’s season-opening loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon later described Cooper as “lights out” and said the linebacker was “all over the place” during that game.
Through two weeks, Cooper has accumulated 15 tackles and two sacks while emerging as one of the most consistent players on Green Bay’s defense.
Cooper’searly production is a great sign for when star pass rusher Micah Parsons returns. Green Bay struggled to finish its season opener but responded against New York, and the former Aggie played an important role in the defensive effort that allowed the Packers to complete their fourth-quarter comeback.
Green Bay will return home Thursday to face the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field.
