Texas A&M volleyball is moving in the right direction following an impressive weekend on the road.
The Aggies climbed two spots to No. 17 in Monday's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll after defeating Georgia and sweeping No. 4 Kentucky. The ranking improvement comes after Texas A&M extended its winning streak to three matches and improved to 13-8 overall and 6-3 in SEC play.
A&M opened the weekend with a four-set victory over Georgia before delivering one of its biggest performances of the season Sunday. The Aggies swept Kentucky 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21, snapping the Wildcats' 30-match home winning streak.
The victory marked Texas A&M's second win over a top-five opponent this season and provided another statement against
a nationally ranked SEC opponent. The Aggies also received individual recognition Monday, with Kyndal Stowers earning SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors and Eliza Sharp being named SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Stowers recorded consecutive double-doubles against Georgia and Kentucky, while Sharp finished the weekend with 11 total blocks The Volunteers climbed three spots in the latest poll, setting up another opportunity for Texas A&M to strengthen its resume against a top-10 opponent. With the regular season entering its final stretch, the Aggies will look to continue building momentum against some of the SEC's best competition.
Texas A&M now turns its attention to another significant conference matchup. The Aggies return to Reed Arena Friday to host No. 6 Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. CT.
