And just like that, former Texas A&M shortstop Ali Camarillo is officially headed to Double‑A. The Athletics promoted the 21‑year‑old on Monday, rewarding a stretch of strong play that made his rise feel more like an inevitability than a surprise.
Camarillo has been trending upward for weeks, andthe writing was on the wall. The only question was when the call would come. After 204 games across Single‑A and High‑A, he’ll now test himself at the next level as he moves from the Lansing Lugnuts to the Midland RockHounds.
As we noted recently, Camarillo’s growth has been impossible to ignore. He’s slashing .283/.354/.393 with 95 hits, five home runs, and 20 stolen bases, showing improved consistency at the plate and a more confident approach in key
situations. Defensively, he’s been just as reliable. Between shortstop and third base, Camarillo owns a .975 fielding percentage, flashing the smooth actions and steady glove that made him a standout in College Station.
Camarillo’s promotion gives him a chance to prove his tools against more advanced competition and if his recent trajectory is any indication, he’s ready for it. The RockHounds just added a player who’s been trending in the right direction all season.
