Texas A&M will begin the 2026-27 men’s basketball season outside the AP Top 25, but the Aggies did receive six votes in the preseason poll.
A&M is coming off a successful first season under Bucky McMillan. The Aggies finished 22-11, placed fourth in the SEC with an 11-7 conference record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
McMillan rebuilt a large portion of the roster during the offseason, adding 10 newcomers led by PJ Haggerty. The Kansas State transfer averaged 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists last season and should become the center of A&M’s fast-paced offense. Mackenzie Mgbako and Zach Clemence give the Aggiestwo experienced forwards returning to the rotation. Texas transfer Jordan Pope could provide another
proven scorer and ballhandler if he remains eligible.
The SEC placed seven teams in the preseason Top 25, led by defending national champion Florida at No. 1. Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky and Vanderbilt also made the rankings. Missouri received 167 votes, while A&M’s six points tied Villanova for the 36th-most in the poll and placed the Aggies two points ahead of Auburn.
Texas A&M will play an exhibition at SMU on Oct. 25 before opening its regular season against Alabama State at Reed Arena on Nov. 3.
