Texas A&M's 48-20 blowout win over Arizona State was not a perfect outing by the Aggies in any way, shape, or form, as the Aggies' offense produced just 255 total yards, including 163 passing yards from QB Marcel Reed, while A&M's deep secondary couldn't cover ASU wide receiver Reed Harris, who led the game with 189 yards and two touchdowns.
Outside of transfer WR Isaiah Horton's two-touchdown performance, junior wideout Terry Bussey led the team with four receptions for 58 yards, while OC Holmon Wiggins fully utilized his ability as a gadget player, picking up a key fourth down early in the game on a rushing attempt.
For those who may have forgotten, Terry Bussey left Timpson HS as one of the best Texas high school football players of all time,
breaking a long list of records, and entered Texas A&M as a wide receiver or cornerback given his unique skill set.
After his first two injury-riddled seasons, Bussey was one of the preseason's shiny stars, reeling in several one-handed catches, and is slowly but surely becoming a reliable target in the passing game. After Saturday's win, Bussey was asked about his versatility and what he'll continue to do in order to win games.
"Whatever we need to win, that's what I'm going to do. If I need to go out there and punt it? I'll do that. If I need to throw it? I'm going to do that. Whatever I need to do to help us win," Bussey said.
Bussey's role as a rotational wide receiver at the Z or in the slot helped the Aggies move the chains on several drives, and while this group has ways to go after producing less than 300 total yards, Bussey's honest assessment speaks for the rest of the team.
"I felt like we started off pretty slow, but we regrouped and got the gameplan right. We got it going," Bussey said. "They have a really good team with a lot of great players."
Arizona State's defense disguised coverages and confused Marcel Reed early, but once the offense stuck to the game plan, as Bussey stated, good things began to happen.
Texas A&M will host Kentucky on Saturday at 2:30 p.m
