Former Texas A&M players delivered several notable performances in Week 5, led by Mike Evans’ biggest game since joining San Francisco.
Evans caught seven of his 10 targets for 113 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ 32-29 victory over Seattle. It was his first 100-yard performance of the season and his third touchdown in five games. Christian Kirk also contributed to the win, catching six passes for 78 yards and adding six rushing yards as San Francisco remained undefeated.
Jacksonville safety Antonio Johnson helped the Jaguars win 19-17 over Philadelphia in London. Johnson recorded four tackles, shared the team’s only sack and broke up one pass. Rookie tight end Nate Boerkircher caught both of his targets for a career-high 20 yards, including
a 12-yard reception. Eagles punter Braden Mann stayed busy on the other side, averaging 50.5 yards on six punts and placing two inside the 20-yard line.
Jake Matthews reached a major milestone during Atlanta’s loss to Baltimore. The former Aggie made his 200th consecutive start, extending the longest active streak in the NFL. Matthews has not missed a start since his rookie season in 2014.
Nnamdi Madubuike was on the other side of that matchup and continued working his way backinto Baltimore’s defensive rotation after missing nearly a year with a neck injury. He led the Ravens’ defensive linemen in playing time and finished with two tackles during their 30-23 overtime victory. Cincinnati defenders Cashius Howell and Shemar Stewart each added one assisted tackle in the Bengals’ 31-24 win over Miami.
The most concerning development involved Cleveland rookie KC Concepcion. He caught one pass for five yards before leaving the Browns’ 17-12 loss to the New York Jets with a head injury. Concepcion was ruled out during the first quarter and entered the NFL’s concussion protocol, but he returned to practice Wednesday. He has 18 receptions for 149 yards through five games.
De’Von Achane did not play for Miami after the team placed him on injured reserve for the knee injury he suffered against Kansas City in Week 3. Myles Garrett also remained on injured reserve while recovering from knee surgery.
Week 5 included a breakout performance from Evans, another career milestone for Matthews and an injury update to monitor with Concepcion. Check out the best photos of former Aggies across the NFL.
