Texas A&M's Week 9 bye served as a good opportunity for the Aggies, who sit at 4-4 and 1-4 in SEC play after losing to Alabama on the road in Week 8, to rest up before facing South Carolina in Columbia on Saturday afternoon, hoping that the added rest results in better play, which is quite the ask after what we've witnessed from the Aggies over the past eight games.
On Saturday, ten SEC teams took the field, including the Texas Longhorns, who took care of visiting Mississippi State 31-7, while Georgia and Ole Miss looked dominant against Florida and Auburn, and South Carolina defeated Oklahoma in Norman 45-25, looking like one of the more formidable teams in the conference, now riding a three-game losing streak before hosting Texas A&M.
The Aggies
are obviously reeling and are not predicted to win any of their final four games, and after watching South Carolina dominate one of the better defenses in the country, it's hard to see a world where this version of Texas A&M goes into Columbia and leaves with a win over one of the hottest teams in the SEC.
Crazier things have happened, but a 4-8 finish feels more realistic week after week, especially after coach Mike Elko confirmed that senior quarterback Marcel Reed will remain the starter, no matter how poorly he's played in the first eight games.
