The NFL season is underway, and while several Texas A&M football players earned spots on active rosters, a few are beginning the year on injured reserve or a practice squad. Some will miss the entire season, others could return in a few weeks, and the practice-squad players could receive a call-up as early as Sunday. NFL teams are always finding creative ways to manage their rosters.
Starting with the most unfortunate news, offensive lineman Chase Bisontis and edge rusher Nic Scourton will both miss the entire season with knee injuries. Arizona’s second-round rookie Bisontis tore his MCL during the preseason. Scourton tore his ACL on Carolina’s opening day of training camp after recording five sacks as a rookie.
In slightly better news, wide receiver
Christian Kirk was designated for return and could potentially rejoin San Francisco after missing at least four games. Defensive lineman Shemar Turner remains on the Reserve/PUP list while recovering from the torn ACL that ended his 2025 season, but he also has a chance to return later this year. Cornerback Tyreek Chappell’s situation is different because he reverted to Minnesota’s injured reserve after being waived with an injury designation.
Finally, linebackers Tyrel Dodson and Buddy Johnson and tight end Tre Watson are currently on their respective teams’ practice squads. Dodson gives Carolina an experienced linebacker after recording 129 tackles for Miami last season. Johnson returns to Chicago and offers extensive special-teams experience, while Watson remains with Miami as a developmental tight end.

These roster designations are current as of Week 1, but practice squads and reserve lists remain fluid. Players can be elevated, signed by another organization, or moved to a different list at any point during the season.
