Texas A&M's football season has been a disaster thus far, and for the Aggie fans who want reprieve, the 2026-2027 college basketball season is just a few weeks away, as second-year coach Bucky McMillan will lead his talented and revamped roster back on the court on Tuesday, November 3, against Alabama State.
This offseason, McMillan and his staff added seven transfer portal additions, led by former Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game last season, combined with guards Jalen Reece, Tyshawn Archie, and Lukas Walls, while forwards Jalen Shelley and Cade Phillips are also expected to make a significant impact.
Returning starters and key contributors include forward Mackenzie Mgbako, guard Rylan Griffen, and forwards
Zach Clemence and Jamie Vinson, all expected to take another step, alongside a talented transfer portal haul that fits Bucky McMillan's scheme.
This could be one of Texas A&M's best teams on paper, and on Sunday, the latest KenPom rankings placed Texas A&M at No. 19 and the sixth-highest-ranked SEC team, coming in one spot above Arkansas at No. 20. This is by far the most talented Texas A&M roster, knowing that PJ Haggerty can take over most games, while Mackenzie Mgbako reaching his full potential will raise this team's ceiling.
After making the NCAA Tournament in his first season at the helm, fans expect a return to the big dance, given the new and exciting additions.
