Texas A&M (0-0) will kick off the 2026 college football season against Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, just two days before coach Mike Elko enters Year 3 at the helm. On Thursday, Texas A&M's first home uniform was revealed to the public, and for those who had zero doubt that the regular maroon helmet, maroon jersey, and white pants would be the choice, you can pat yourself on the back.
After a productive offseason with little to no drama, the 8th-ranked Aggies enter the new campaign nationally under the radar, even after making the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, but if you had to ask Mike Elko, that's exactly where he wants to be after ending the 2025 season on a sour note with back-to-back losses to Texas
and Miami in the first round of the CFP.
For those who have kept up, Texas A&M's 2026 roster is made up of 65% of the 2025 team, 17 transfer portal additions, and the 2026 signing class, led by redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed, who enters his second full starting season after throwing for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last fall.
Aided by one of the deepest wide receiver rooms in the country, a talented running back room, and a deep offensive line, the expectation is that Marcel Reed will at least match his 2025 production and cut down on his turnover issues.
Against Missouri State, Texas A&M's equally deep defensive line and secondary will be the focus for this writer, especially Northwestern transfer Edge Anto Saka and former Tennessee cornerback Rickey Gibson.
