Former Texas A&Mlinebacker Edgerrin Cooper will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after tests confirmed he tore his Achilles during Green Bay’s 17-14 victory over Tampa Bay.
Cooper suffered the noncontact injury during the third quarter and had to be carted off the field. The diagnosis ends another strong start for one of the Packers’ most important defenders. Before leaving the game, Cooper recorded a team-high nine tackles, one sack, one quarterback hit and an interception. His pick helped set up a 58-yard field goal before halftime and gave Green Bay a 10-7 lead.
The injury clearly affected his teammates after the game. Quarterback Jordan Love shared his reaction in the Packers’ postgame recap.
“Man, I’m sick. Pray for the best. Coop is
such an impact player on our defense.”
Head coach Matt LaFleur also discussed what losing Cooper means for the Packers.
“That’s a huge blow for our football team. I hurt for him. I hurt for our team.”
Cooper will finish the season with 30 tackles, three sacks and one interception. Green Bay will likely turn to Isaiah McDuffie for a larger role alongside Zaire Franklin. The Packers selected Cooper with the No. 45 overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft. He developed into one of the league’s top young linebackers after earning consensus All-America honors during his final season at Texas A&M.
Green Bay improved to 2-2 with the victory, but replacing Cooper will be one of its biggest challenges moving forward.
