Rylan Griffen's status for the Texas A&M Aggies is once again in question.
The senior guard had a preliminary injunction hearing on Wednesday to determine his eligibility for the 2026-27 season, but Judge John Brick reportedly did not make a ruling due to a lack of jurisdiction, according to Luke Evangelist of TexAgs. Griffen's temporary restraining order, which Brick granted him in September and which made him eligible, is set to expire Wednesday night, making him ineligible to play.
Griffen is seeking a fifth year of eligibility after the NCAA changed its rules to allow players to play five years, but excluded players from the class of 2022. He originally planned to pursue a professional career and joined the Denver Nuggets for the NBA Summer
League, but elected to attempt a return for a second season at Texas A&M. He never signed with the Nuggets, making his case simpler than others who signed professional contracts.
He appeared in 32 games last season at Texas A&M, making 27 starts and finishing second on the team in scoring (11.2), first in steals (1.6), and third in assists (2.5) per game. The guard scored in double figures 16 times, including scoring a career-high 24 points against the LSU Tigers to end the regular season.
Texas A&M is set to open the 2026-27 season on Tuesday, Nov. 3, against the Alabama State Yellow Jackets and will currently be without Griffen, who is listed on the online roster and played in their last exhibition against SMU. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
