Two former Texas A&M playmakers left their NFL games with injuries Sunday. Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane suffered a knee injury against the Kansas City Chiefs, while San Francisco 49ers receiver Mike Evans injured his ribs against the Arizona Cardinals. Neither returned.
Achane was involved in four of Miami’s first five offensive plays before getting hurt on an 11-yard run in the first quarter. He walked to the sideline under his own power, but the Dolphins later ruled him out of their 24-10 loss. Miami had not determined the severity of the injury after the game.
Coach Jeff Hafley said the team was still gathering information and expected to know more Monday. His initial assessment was concerning
“It does not sound optimistic at this
moment.”
Hafley did not give a diagnosis or a timetable for Achane’s return.
Evans entered San Francisco’s game questionable with a hip injury but was cleared to play. He caught a 23-yard touchdown pass before suffering a separate injury in the second quarter. The 49ers ruled him out after halftime, then went on to beat Arizona 36-30.
NFL Network reported that Evans has a rib strain and will undergo a full evaluation Monday. After the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said the team was still determining whether the injury involved a rib or an oblique muscle. He did not estimatehow much time Evans might miss.
For now, both teams are waiting on further medical evaluations. Achane’s injury is the more worrying of the two based on his coach’s comments, but it is too early to assign either former Aggie a return date.
