Texas A&M's future starting quarterback after Marcel Reed is not set in stone, as current backup Brady Hart and freshman Helaman Casuga may be next in line, while 2027 four-star commit Jayce Johnson is another name to watch over the next two offseasons. However, looking past 2027, 2028 five-star quarterback Donald Tabron III might be the next star signal caller to take the starting reins.
In the first two games of the 2026 season, Texas A&M blew out Missouri State 50-0 and Arizona State 48-20, and will now host Kentucky in Week 3. All seven home games serve as key recruiting opportunities to lock down all 26 commits in the No. 1-ranked 2027 cycle, combined with hosting a long list of priority prospects in the 2028 and 2029 cycles.
After committing
to the Aggies back on August 15, Donald Tabron III will reportedly make his way back to College Station for a visit this weekend and will attend the Kentucky game, getting to watch Marcel Reed and the offense for the first time this season and get a better feel for what he can do with the Aggies once he makes his way to campus.
For some, recruiting visits are just run-of-the-mill new updates, but Donald Tabron's potential is through the roof, further solidifying his relationship with coach Mike Elko, OC Holmon Wiggins, and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch, and giving the Aggies a much better chance of signing the elite signal caller by this time next year.
While Jayce Johnson certainly has the traits to be an early starter, Donald Tabron is one of the more refined passers in the country, with the ability to make every throw with accuracy and touch, and the arm strength to throw deep passes and his receivers in stride.
