The No. 10 Texas A&M Aggies(1‑0) will host the Arizona State Sun Devils (1-0) on Saturday at Kyle Field in a Week 2 matchup.
Texas A&M will get its first real measuring-stick game of the season when Arizona State visits Kyle Field on Saturday. Both teams cruised through Week 1, with the Aggies shutting out Missouri State 50-0 and the Sun Devils dismantling Morgan State 70-7.
The final scores were similar, but Arizona State wasted little time putting its game away. The Sun Devils led 49-7 at halftime behind a nearly flawless debut from quarterback Cutter Boley, who threw for 387 yards and six touchdowns. ASU also rushed for 249 yards and finished with three receivers over the 100-yard mark.
It was an impressive performance, but Week 1 can be difficult
to judge when the talent gap is that wide. Both programs eventually went deep into their benches, and neither opener told us much about how they will respond when the game remains competitive into the second half.
Texas A&M still has the more talented roster overall, but the Aggies have a few things to clean up. The offense must avoid another slow start, eliminate costly penalties, and find the right combination along the offensive line. Finishing drives will also be important after a red-zone fumble took points off the board last week.
Defensively, Texas A&M looked as advertised while holding Missouri State to 67 yards and four first downs. Arizona State has enough speed and balance to apply significantly more pressure, making Saturday a much better indicator of what the Aggies actually have on both sides of the ball.
