Texas A&M (1–0) will play host again in Week 2 when they welcome the Arizona State Sun Devils (1–0) to Kyle Field for a lunchtime kickoff.
Both teams are coming off huge Week 1 wins, with A&M beating the Missouri State Bears 50–0 and the Sun Devils rolling past the Morgan State Bears 70–7. Unlike the Aggies, ASU stomped Morgan State in the first half, outscoring them 49–7 compared to A&M’s 19–0 first‑half score. But Week 1 is always a strange time because teams are usually working on different things, so unless the final score is close, you can’t look into it too much.
On paper, Texas A&M has the more talented roster overall. However, ASU has a sneaky‑good offense led by quarterback Cutter Boley, who brings SEC experience and completes close to
65% of his passes. There’s legitimate talent at the skill positions, even if the group still has something to prove. Defensively, it’s too early to make a firm evaluation. After building such a huge lead, ASU began subbing players, making the tape less clean, but they allowed only one touchdown and 188 total yards.
For Texas A&M, the focus will be on getting off to a fast start, figuring out the offensive line combination, and limiting mental mistakes. The Aggies had too many costly penalties and an untimely red-zone fumble. If they can simply play clean football, they’ll be extremely difficult to keep up with. They have the talent to grind out a game or blow it open through the air. The defense looked as advertised, and they’ll need another strong performance to give the offense breathing room as it works through early‑season adjustments.

This should be an interesting matchup for both teams, especially on the offensive side of the ball. It’s still far too early to know what either group truly is, considering both blew out their Week 1 opponents. For Texas A&M, the starting offensive line had a few communication issues that led to negative plays, and that’s at least a mild concern. At the same time, the second half told a different story the backups controlled the line of scrimmage, and the running game finally started to build momentum.
Arizona State should be able to put more pressure on A&M’s defense, which could make this a much closer game. If the Aggies play anything like they did in the first half against Missouri State, ASU has enough firepower to jump out to an early lead. Even with that possibility, I’m not ready to hand A&M their first loss of the season. The Aggies have more overall talent, and I believe they’ll pull away late for the victory.
