Texas A&M freshman libero Gabi Rodriguez has wasted little time making her mark in College Station.
Rodriguez became the fastest freshman in program history to reach 100 career digs, doing so in just nine matches. She crossed the century mark after collecting 20 digs during the Aggies’ five-set loss to No. 6 Wisconsin.
The 5-foot-5 defensive specialist followed that performance with 17 digs in Texas A&M’s sweep of SFA, giving her double-digit digs in eight consecutive matches. Her consistency has been an encouraging development for an Aggies team replacing several experienced contributors from last season’s national championship roster.
Rodriguez arrived at Texas A&M as one of the most highly regarded defensive players in the2026 recruiting class.
PrepVolleyball ranked the McKinney, Texas, native as the No. 13 overall prospect and No. 2 libero in the country. She was also named the DFW Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all-state and Libero of the Year honors from the Texas Sports Writers Association.
Her experience extends beyond high school and club volleyball. Rodriguez served as the United States’ libero at the U21 FIVB World Championships, helping prepare her to take on an important role immediately after arriving in College Station.
The freshman’s ability to stabilize the back row has become even more important as Texas A&M works through an inconsistent start against a difficult nonconference schedule. The Aggies have already faced six ranked opponentsthrough their first 10 matches, including four teams ranked inside the top 10.
Rodriguez will have another chance to build on her strong start when No. 15 Texas A&M travels to face No. 20 Creighton on Sunday.
