Texas A&M deservedly dropped out of the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 after Saturday's blowout 35-6 road loss to LSU in Week 4, looking lifeless on both sides of the ball and further proving that the 2026 Aggies are not a good football team with eight regular-season games remaining.
Starting quarterback Marcel Reed threw for a pedestrian 106 yards, completing 10/26 and averaging 4.1 yards per completion, which is comical on its face and even more telling for the redshirt junior who has not improved as a pocket passer in the slightest.
However, the coaching staff, especially third-year coach Mike Elko, deserves blame, as Elko's decision to elevate Holmon Wiggins as the team's new OC, combined with defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill and quarterbacks
coach Joey Lynch, who were also a part of the 2025 staff, has yet to pay off based on what we witnessed over the past two games.
It's hard to know where future wins will come from, especially with one of the toughest SEC schedules: the Aggies host Arkansas before taking on Missouri in Columbia, followed by The Citadel at home, before consecutive road games vs. Alabama and South Carolina, followed by Tennessee at home, Oklahoma in Norman, and Texas at home.
After falling to LSU, Texas A&M dropped five spots to No. 16 in ESPN's Football Power Index with a rating of 15.1. The Aggies are currently the seventh highest-ranked SEC team, trailing Tennessee (No. 11), Florida (No. 10), LSU (No. 8), Alabama (No. 6), Texas (No. 4), and Georgia at No. 1.
Following Saturday's ugly loss, ESPN's FPI also currently projects Texas A&M's win-loss record at 6.4-5.6 and a 0.3% chance to win out. Other current Texas A&M percentages, per ESPN's FPI, include a 0.1% chance to win the SEC and a 3.3% chance to make the College Football Playoff.
