Myles Garrett's time with the Los Angeles Rams is not off to the start anyone envisioned. The former Texas A&M star is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery and will be placed on the injured reserve, according to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer.
Garrett played in the Rams' season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, but was unable to make his normal impact. He did not record a single tackle, and Pro Football Focus credited him with just three pressures, with Los Angeles losing 27-7 in Australia.
With him placed on IR, he will miss at least the next four games, with his earliest possible return coming against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6. It is his first season with the Rams after they traded for him over the offseason, sending Jared Verse and
three draft picks to the Cleveland Browns for the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
He is coming off the best season of his career, setting a new NFL single-season sack record last year with 23.0. He also recorded 33.0 tackles for loss, 60 tackles, and three forced fumbles. It was his second time being named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, with him first winning the award in 2023.
Garrett spent the first nine years of his career with Cleveland, making the All-Pro First Team five times and the Second Team twice. In 134 career games, he recorded 412 tackles, 125.5 sacks, 149.0 tackles for loss, and 23 forced fumbles.
