No. 12 Texas A&M entered last week riding a six-match winning streak and undefeated in SEC play. Two difficult road losses brought that momentum to an abrupt stop and resulted in the Aggies’ biggest rankings drop of the season.
Texas A&M
fell seven spots to No. 19 in the latest AVCA-Taraflex Division I poll after losing to Oklahoma and Arkansas. The Aggies received 409 points and are now 10-7 overall with a 3-2 record in conference play.A&M opened the road trip with a five-set loss at Oklahoma. The Aggies won the first and third sets before the Sooners rallied to win the final two. Oklahoma received 36 votes in the new poll but remained outside the Top 25. The Aggies then lost in four sets at Arkansas despite another productive performance from
Kyndal Stowers. She recorded 20 kills and 12 digs, but no other A&M player reached double-digit kills.
The results ended a six-match winning streak that included four consecutive sweeps. They also dropped A&M from near the top of the SEC standings into a more crowded position early in conference play. Texas A&M has now appeared in 25 consecutive AVCA polls, but coach Jamie Morrison made it clear that his focus is on getting the Aggies moving in the right direction again.
“Looking backwards, I think the word that we probably all feel right now is disappointed,” Morrison said. “I would be disappointed if I didn’t have belief. And I do have belief that this group is good enough to go do great things this year.”
A&M will have an immediate opportunity to improve its ranking when it returns to Reed Arena. The Aggies host No. 7 Florida on Friday at 6 p.m. CT before facing Auburn on Sunday at noon.
