Texas A&M will host Kentucky at Kyle Field for its first SEC game of the season and will look to get off to a faster start than it did in its first two games.
The Aggies have not looked their best offensively, producing only 255 total yards against Arizona State. Some of that can be attributed to several short scoring drives and the defense scoring two touchdowns, which gave A&M a comfortable lead and slowed the game down late. However, the concerning part was the Aggies averaging fewer than three yards per carry and converting only 3-of-12 third downs.
After facing a significant jump in competition last week, I expect offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins to make the necessary adjustments and identify what best fits his personnel.
Kentucky looked
solid during the first half against Alabama before everything fell apart over the final 30 minutes. The Wildcats were outscored 32-0 after halftime, finished with only 209 total yards, converted 1-of-14 third downs and committed three turnovers.
Facing an A&M defense that appears faster than last season and continues hunting for turnovers could put Kentucky in the same predicament it faced last week.
Neither offense has lit up the stat sheet, so this matchup could come down to which defense controls the game. The Aggies appear to have the advantage there, which is one reason most experts are picking Texas A&M to beat Kentucky.
