Texas A&M ended its miserable two-game losing streak after defeating Arkansas 34-7 in Kyle Field on Saturday night, led by freshman running back KJ Edwards' breakout performance, rushing for a career-high 66 yards and two touchdowns, earning the right to play even more snaps for the rest of the season, and could even end up as the full-time starter.
Starting quarterback Marcel Reed's accuracy issues are still a problem that may not be solved, but first-year offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins deserves credit for focusing on establishing the run early and often to set up play-action opportunities for Reed to make plays outside the pocket, where he completed 13/19 for 170 yards and 8.9 yards per completion.
Rushing for 231 total yards, Texas A&M's
offensive line deserves immense credit for its continued improvement in pass protection and run blocking, allowing just three pressures against the Razorbacks and consistently opening up holes in the running game. Yes, Arkansas is not a good football team, but the Aggies accomplished their primary goal.
Set to face Missouri on the road after the Tigers destroyed Florida at home 45-17, Texas A&M moved up five spots in the latest USA TODAY Re-Rank after Week 5 to No. 42, while Missouri rose 16 spots to No. 13 after looking like one of the country's most dangerous offenses.
Texas A&M will face Missouri at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, airing on ABC.
