The San Francisco 49ers on Thursday made a trio of roster moves ahead of their season opener vs. the Los Angeles Rams.
Defensive tackle Alfred Collins was officially placed on IR after suffering a torn patellar tendon early in the week. Wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge and defensive lineman Ogbo Okoronkwo were elevated from the practice squad. Both players will revert back to the practice squad after Thursday’s game.
Hodge will primarily be a special teams contributor. Okoronkwo could play a significant role as an edge rusher with rookie Romello Height coming off an ankle injury and Nick Bosa expected to be limited while returning from a torn ACL.
In a somewhat surprising move the 49ers didn’t promote anyone from the practice squad to take Collins’
place on the active roster. That bodes well for rookie defensive tackle James Thompson who is questionable with a hamstring injury. After Week 1 the 49ers will have 10 days until their next game so they have time to make a decision on how to fill the roster spot vacated by Collins.
