The San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday made a wide receiver swap on their practice squad after veteran Dante Pettis suffered a calf injury.
Pettis was signed to San Francisco's practice squad ahead of the team's Week 4 tilt with the Denver Broncos. He was injured in practice and the club placed him on the practice squad IR. In a corresponding move they signed WR Xavier Smith to replace him on the 17-man practice roster.
Smith was an undrafted rookie with the Los Angeles Rams after going unselected in the 2023 draft out of Florida A&M. He played in 34 games with three starts for LA across three seasons 20 receptions for 309 yards. He also notched four carries for 36 yards. This season he saw action in three games for the Rams and played 80 offensive
snaps where he earned just one target.
