Brandon Aiyuk is making a move to return to the field.
Aiyuk has turned in paperwork to be reinstated, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. Aiyuk's new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said the receiver "is healthy and ready to get back on the field." Aiyuk needed this step to return to the team after being placed on San Francisco’s reserve/left squad list earlier this year.
Per Schefter, Aiyuk will report to the team’s training facility Friday afternoon.

The
news comes after Schefter reported that Aiyuk had hired Rosenhaus, who said he was working on getting his client back to work and playing in the NFL again. Aiyuk was previously represented by Ryan Williams, whom he reportedly fired last November while blaming him for the issues with the 49ers.
What comes next for Aiyuk could be one of three things: The 49ers could immediately release Aiyuk, leaving him free to sign with any club; the 49ers could trade Aiyuk and his contract to a team interested in receiver help; Aiyuk could rejoin the team and play in 2026.
Aiyuk's release is the most likely scenario given how the past two years have unfolded.
Aiyuk tore his ACL midway through the 2024 season, spent the 2025 season away from the team and had the guaranteed money on his four-year, $120 million contract voided, and then criticized the 49ers on social media throughout the 2026 offseason. General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan both indicated Aiyuk is not a part of the team's long-term plans, and the team refused to trade him this offseason despite Aiyuk publicly requesting to be sent to the Washington Commanders, where quarterback Jayden Daniels was his teammate for a season at Arizona State.
If the 49ers release him in the coming weeks, they'll take on dead cap hits of $7.36 million in 2026 and $19.29 million in 2027, per Spotrac.
