The San Francisco 49ers were statistically the worst team in the league at getting after the quarterback in 2025, as they finished with fewer sacks than any other team in the NFL.
Despite this, they allowed Clelin Ferrell, one of their top producers on the edge, to hit the market and left him unsigned through the start of training camp. However, on Monday, the defensive end signed with the Miami Dolphins
.Ferrell, 29, originally joined the 49ers in 2023 after being a first-round pick and spending four years with the Las Vegas Raiders. In that first stint, he played in all 17 games and recorded 28 tackles, a career-high 13 quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery.
Then, after stays with the Washington
Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers, Ferrell returned to San Francisco last year, appearing in eight games and recording 24 tackles, five quarterback hits and four sacks.
