The San Francisco 49ers family is mourning the loss of another former player, as offensive lineman Jordan Devey has died at 38 years old earlier this week.
Devey's wife, Linsey, announced the death of the former 49ers offensive lineman on Thursday night, and a GoFundMe page started for the family, which has a goal of $200,000, revealed that he died by suicide.
“Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,” the post stated. “As they face overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including mounting medical expenses, the community is coming together to support Linsey and their children. The funds raised will help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on healing
and moving forward without the added stress of immediate expenses.”
Devey played at Snow College from 2009-11 and at Memphis from 2011-13, earning All-C-USA honors once. After going undrafted in 2013, he had a brief stint with the Baltimore Ravens before spending two years with the New England Patriots, where he won a Super Bowl.
San Francisco traded for Devey in 2015, sending tight end Asante Cleveland back to New England. He appeared in 15 games and started nine for the 49ers that season. After the 49ers waived him the following year, Devey spent three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, one with the Las Vegas Raiders and one with the Buffalo Bills before retiring in 2021.
According to the New York Post, Devey was named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Eagle High School in Idaho earlier this year.
