The San Francisco 49ers got two stars back in practice Sunday as they gear up for their final preseason game on the 2026 schedule.
Tight end George Kittle was officially activated off the PUP list before practice, opening the door for his first action since suffering an Achilles tear vs. the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild card round of the playoffs. That wasn't the only good news on the injury front for San Francisco, though. Running back Christian McCaffrey was also back.
The Athletic's Matt Barrows was the first to note McCaffrey was in uniform and practicing for the first time since a bout with "tightness" eliminated him from on-field action for the last couple of weeks. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan insisted there was nothing of concern
with McCaffrey, and after the team's joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers indicated McCaffrey would be returning soon. The superstar RB wasn't in uniform for Saturday's session, but now he's ready to roll in some capacity for Sunday.
It's unclear exactly how much McCaffrey will participate. His return is good news either way as the team looks to ramp him back up for their regular season opener on Sept. 10 vs. the Los Angeles Rams.
